Jasonta's KDEC Sports Day- Narrative Learning Story-22.03.15

Learner: Jasonta  Poki    Learning Coach: Margaret Patrick   Date: 22nd March, 2015
Learning Area: Health & Physical Education- Maintaining Regular Physical Activity
Learning Observed
Jasonta participated in the KDEC sports day.She attempted all the events. These included: 100m sprint, long jump, and the vortex throw. Due to the rain the rest of the events were cancelled so she missed out on the discus, shot and  high jump. We had practiced how to start the sprints at school during PE time. She powered out of the start and you can see in the photo how she was using her arms and her eyes were focused ahead. She was motivated to push herself. Jasonta is very short for her age so she often has to work overtime to keep up with her peers.

Jasonta was part of group who selected the  “Block or Blend” art activity.During the session she viewed pictures of objects that depicted block colours and blended colours. Using pastels she picked a colour and learnt how to make a tint, shade and tone. The next step was to google images of flowers heads and select one to copy. Using white pastel she had to fill a sheet of A3 black paper with the outline of the flower. Selecting one paint colour she was able to mix it with white to create a tint,. black to create a shade and both black and white to create a tone. When she finished her flower, she used white pastel to go around the outline and around the centre of the flower. She cut it out and glued it onto the white background.

Jasonta's Creating a Treaty- Narrative Learning Story-11.03.05

Learner: Jasonta Pokii       Learning Coach:Margaret Patrick            Date:11.3.15
Learning Area:Social Sciences-Place and Environment
Learning Observed
The learners and LCs in LH 1 thought that if we had a treaty it would help everyone manage the way we interacted with others in our beautiful new learning habitat. One of the key values at OrmPS is showing respect. The learners explored the meaning of  “respect” in three  different ways.
  • Respect for ourselves
  • Respect for others
  • Respect for our environment.
Everyone agreed on the final selection of criteria and these were printed out and displayed on the wall of LH1 When Jasonta gets upset she makes a very grumpy face and this can upset others.
Jasonta is signing LH1’s treaty. She knows that she is making a promise to the other learners that she will try to make sure she is worthy of being a member of LH1 and that she can can show respect to others and manage herself in a way that makes her feel proud. This includes what happens at iBreak times. This treaty will be a reminder of her commitment.

Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Jasonta is making a commitment to this treaty by signing it. She is wanting to increase his  skills in  Managing Self, Relating to Others and building connections with her other learners and LC’s.
Next Learning Steps
  • Focus during learning opportunities
  • Improve managing her  time so she arrives at activities and learning blocks on time and is ready to go to the taxi.
  • Worry about herself and what she needs to and not “boss” others around.
  • Stop calling out across the LH and control the volume of her talking.
  • Accept responsibility for her behaviour and know how it impacts on others.
